Some of the busiest major motorways in the UK include the M25, M1, M6. The M1 runs North South on the central Eastern side of the UK running from London to Leeds and stretches 193 miles.

The M6 motorway runs North South on the Western side of the UK and runs from Cattorpe in England to Grtna in Scotland and is approximately 227 miles long.

The M3 runs from London to Southampton.

The M4 runs from London down the Thames Valley to Llanelli in South Wales and is approximately 190 miles long.

The M25 is around 117 miles long one of the longest ring roads in the world. The M25 circles London and get particularly busy in peak rush hour times. With Heathrow Airport on the Western side of the M25 peak commuter times added to peak flight times can see the Western side of the M25 ground to a halt. The Western side has in recent years been extended to four lanes per carrigeway and this motorway widening program started around the busy Heathrow area and is now in 2010 being extended further North on the North Western part of the M25.

The M6 (Preston Bypass) was the first motorway in the UK and work started on the M6 in 1958.
